Our story begins back in 2017. After growing up in Idaho and spending years traveling up and down the west coast, I felt my heart calling me back to my native island of Puerto Rico.
I spent that summer paddle boarding and planning to build a house and start my farm. Every morning I went to the beach I started to realize something. There was a lot of brand loyalty for outside surf brands, but no locally owned board companies or brands to be found nearby. So I started designing my own boards and created the Rich Port Board Company. (Rich Port=Puerto Rico in English) A concept for a local brand for the people, by the people.
Little did I know that in a few months my life would be turned upside down. That fall, Hurricane Maria came through the island and left my plans devestated like much of the island. With family in Central PA, I moved up to Lycoming County.
God had a better plan. In 2018 I married the girl of my dreams and we moved to Montoursville, PA. While we were no longer in Puerto Rico, we started to realize that we were in fact by another Rich Port. Williamsport, home of the Millionaires, and rich in resources for outdoor recreation! We discovered the beautiful lakes, creeks, and the Susquehanna River that surrounded us and realized that this was a perfect place to continue the dream.
In 2019 we launched the first prototypes of the Rich Port Board Company. We put a few up for sale and a few up for rent. That’s when things got interesting! We quickly realized that Northcentral PA had a heavy kayak culture, and the demand turned quickly to kayak rentals. We started out with our two boats and two boards in our garage in 2019. By 2022 we were up over 40 vessels between kayaks, canoes, and SUPs. With the focus shifting from board production to the rental business, the Rich Port Board Company became the Rich Port Adventure Company.
In the Fall of 2022, we made it from our garage to our first shop on 50 Angletown Rd. We now offer kayak, canoe, paddle board, tube, mountain bike, and electric bike rentals as well as hiking tours and shuttles. 2022 also saw the birth of the Rich Port Cafe, our on site food truck serving authentic Puerto Rican beach food! (Empanadas are my favorite)
With the shift into our first retail location, we’ve also revived the Rich Port Board Company, with new Paddle Boards and Skateboards dropping in 2023.
We continue to add brands and niche outdoor gear that you wouldn’t traditionally find in nearby stores. If there’s something in particular you’re looking for and we don’t have it in our small shop, give us a chance to find you the best deal. We have access to many major brands and distributors with thousands of products available! Before you go online, give us a call and keep it local.
Not looking to spend top dollar on a new hobby? We offer an in-store consignment program for quality pre-owned outdoor gear. If you’re looking to sell used watersport, boardsport, hiking, or camping equipment, come see us!
Our mission is to not only to cater to the growing tourist sector, but to help our local community see the opportunities for adventure right in their back yard! To keep families and friends active in the outdoors, while keeping it affordable.
Wether you’re in town visiting, or live here locally and are curious about what there is to do, come down! Grab an empanada or two and talk to somebody about our day-cations opportunities! There is always good food, a friendly smile, and adventure waiting for you here!
